Body Lotion Pills on Skin
Body lotion pills when too much product sits on dry skin or layers conflict. Use less, apply to damp skin, and give sunscreen or shimmer products time to set.
Part of body beauty fixes and dry beauty fixes .

What you'll need
- damp washcloth
- body lotion
- body oil
- towel
Why it happened
Pilling happens when a film-forming lotion cannot absorb or mesh with what is underneath. Rubbing too long rolls that film into little pieces. Damp skin helps lotion spread thinner and absorb more evenly, while oil seals dry patches without adding another gummy layer.
The fix
- 1wipe away the rolled-up product with a damp washcloth
- 2towel skin until it is damp, not wet
- 3apply a smaller amount of lotion in sections and stop rubbing once it spreads evenly
- 4seal very dry areas with a few drops of body oil instead of another layer of lotion
If it's still wrong
- Exfoliate gently in the shower if dead skin is making products catch.
- Let sunscreen dry fully before layering shimmer oil or body makeup.
Prevent next time
- Use thinner layers and wait between body products.
- Avoid mixing silicone-heavy lotions with tacky gels in the same area.
Notes
Why this works
Pilling is a layering issue. Many lotions leave a flexible film on the skin to hold moisture in. If that film is too thick, or if it sits over another product it cannot blend with, friction rolls it up.
Applying less product to damp skin makes the layer thinner and smoother. Once the lotion is spread, more rubbing does not help; it usually creates the pills.
