Curls Get Crunchy After Gel

Why it happened
Gel forms a temporary shell around curls while they dry. That cast helps hold definition, but it feels stiff until it is broken. Too much gel, too little water, or touching curls before they dry can leave the cast uneven and crunchy instead of soft and defined.
The fix
- 1let curls dry fully before touching them so the gel cast sets evenly
- 2warm two drops of lightweight oil in your palms and scrunch upward to break the cast
- 3if a section still feels hard, mist it lightly with water and scrunch again instead of adding more product

- Dilute the gel with water in your palms before applying it.
- Layer a leave-in conditioner under gel if your curls feel dry as well as crunchy.
Prevent next time
- Apply gel to very wet hair so it spreads thinly.
