Hyaluronic Acid Feels Sticky
Hyaluronic acid feels sticky when too much serum dries on top of skin without enough water or moisturizer. Damp skin and a thinner layer make it feel smooth.

The fix
- cleanse or rinse skin so old product is not sitting underneath
- mist your face until it is lightly damp, not dripping wet
- press 2 to 3 drops of hyaluronic acid serum over the face instead of rubbing on a full dropper
- seal it within 30 seconds with a nickel-size amount of moisturizer
If it’s still not right
- Use the serum only at night if it makes sunscreen or makeup pill.
- Switch to a lighter hydrating toner if every hyaluronic acid serum feels gummy.
Prevent it next time
- Apply humectant serums to damp skin instead of bone-dry skin.
- Use fewer drops and add moisture with cream, not more serum.
Notes
Why this works
Sticky serum is usually a dose and layering problem. Hyaluronic acid can feel elegant in a thin layer, but too much forms a film that catches under sunscreen, makeup, or your fingers.
Adding water first and moisturizer after gives the humectant something useful to hold. The result is a thinner layer that hydrates without drying into tacky residue.
