Beard Balm Feels Greasy
Beard balm can feel greasy when too much is used, it is applied to wet hair, or the formula is too heavy for your beard density. Remove the excess and restart with less.
Part of men's grooming beauty fixes and oily beauty fixes .
What you'll need
- clean towel
- beard comb
- mild face wash
- lightweight beard oil
Why it happened
Balm contains waxes and butters, so it sits heavier than beard oil. When it is layered on damp hair or applied by the scoop, it coats the outside instead of softening evenly. A smaller amount on dry hair gives hold without the greasy finish.
The fix
- 1blot the beard with a clean towel to lift surface grease
- 2comb through the beard from roots to ends to spread the balm evenly
- 3wash with mild face wash if the beard still feels waxy or coated
- 4next time, warm a pea-size amount between your hands and apply only to a dry beard
If it's still wrong
- Switch to lightweight beard oil if your beard is short or fine.
- Use balm only on the ends and flyaway areas instead of pressing it into the skin.
Prevent next time
- Start with less product than you think you need.
- Comb after applying so balm does not stay in one shiny patch.
Notes
Why this works
Beard balm is designed to add control, not disappear completely. The problem starts when waxy product sits on the surface in a thick layer. Blotting and combing remove the obvious shine while spreading what remains into a thinner film.
Short beards usually need very little balm because there is not much hair to absorb it. If the beard is still close to the face, oil or moisturizer may give enough softness without the heavy hold.
Substitutions
- mild face wash→gentle shampoo used only through the beard
- lightweight beard oil→one drop of jojoba oil
