Lash Primer Makes Mascara Clumpy
Lash primer makes mascara clumpy when the primer coat is too thick or too dry before mascara goes on. Thin the primer and coat before it hardens.

The fix
- wipe excess primer from the brush before applying
- apply primer only from root to mid-length, not heavily on the tips
- add mascara while the primer is tacky, then comb through once
If it’s still not right
- Skip primer on the lower lashes.
- Use primer only on sparse areas instead of every lash.
Prevent it next time
- Keep primer layers thin.
- Do one eye at a time so primer does not dry down before mascara.
Notes
Why this works
Lash primer works best as a light base. If it builds up at the tips, mascara stacks on top and creates a clumpy silhouette.
Keeping primer near the roots adds fullness where it matters while leaving the ends clean enough to separate.
