Gray Roots Show Between Color
Gray roots show between appointments because new growth reflects light differently from dye. A temporary root touch-up softens the line without full color.
Part of hair beauty fixes and dull beauty fixes .

What you'll need
- root touch-up powder or spray
- tail comb
- hairspray
- mirror
Why it happened
Gray hair can look brighter at the root because it has less pigment and catches light near the scalp. Covering only the visible part line and hairline softens the contrast without darkening the rest of the color or creating buildup through the lengths.
The fix
- 1part hair where you normally wear it and keep the section narrow
- 2apply root touch-up only to the visible gray regrowth
- 3blend the edge with a tail comb or fingertip so there is no hard stripe
- 4set lightly with hairspray if the product transfers
If it's still wrong
- Try a slightly lighter touch-up shade if the root product looks harsh.
- Change the part slightly to hide the strongest regrowth line for a day.
Prevent next time
- Keep root touch-up on the scalp area, not through the mids and ends.
- Book color before the regrowth line gets wider than you like wearing it.
Notes
Why this works
Root touch-up works because most people only see the top layer of regrowth: the part, temples, and hairline. Covering every root is unnecessary for a short-term fix and can make hair feel coated.
Blending the edge keeps the correction believable. A slightly soft transition looks more natural than a dense stripe of pigment right on the part.
Substitutions
- root touch-up powder or spray→matte eyeshadow close to your hair color
- hairspray→clear brow gel used lightly on tiny hairline spots
