Hair Snaps When Brushing
Hair snaps when brushing because the strands are dry, tangled, or weakened from color and heat. Add slip, detangle from the ends, and pause harsh styling.

The fix
- mist hair with leave-in conditioner before detangling
- start at the ends with a wide-tooth comb and work upward slowly
- smooth a drop of oil over dry ends after detangling
If it’s still not right
- Stop brushing wet hair with a dense brush.
- Trim ends that keep splitting upward.
Prevent it next time
- Use conditioner every wash.
- Sleep on hair that is dry or protected, not loose and tangled.
Notes
Why this works
Damaged hair has less elasticity. Pulling through knots dry or too quickly makes the weakest points snap.
Leave-in conditioner and a wide-tooth comb reduce force, which protects length while you detangle.
