Roots Frizzy After a Blowout

Roots get frizzy after a blowout when they dry before being smoothed, or when humidity hits hair with no hold. Re-dampen the roots and smooth with controlled tension.

What you'll need

  • spray bottle of water
  • round brush
  • blow dryer
  • lightweight anti-frizz cream

Why it happened

Roots set into their final shape as they dry. If they dry rough before the brush reaches them, the rest of the blowout can look smooth while the top stays puffy. Re-dampening lets you reset that area without washing the whole head.

The fix

Save
  1. 1mist only the frizzy root area until it is slightly damp
  2. 2apply a tiny amount of anti-frizz cream to fingertips and smooth the surface
  3. 3blow-dry the roots with tension from a round brush
  4. 4finish with cool air before touching the hair

If it's still wrong

  • Use a small amount of flexible hairspray on the brush, then smooth flyaways.
  • Avoid heavy oil at the roots because it can collapse the blowout.

Prevent next time

  • Dry the root area first while it is still damp.
  • Use nozzle direction so airflow points down the hair shaft.

Notes

Why this works

Frizz at the roots is often a timing issue. The lengths may be polished, but the roots dried without enough tension or directional airflow. Once hair cools in that shape, it holds the puff.

Water resets the hydrogen bonds enough to reshape the area. Tension smooths the surface, and cool air locks the root direction before humidity and handling disturb it again.
